Hai Phong strengthens tourism linkages to become a dynamic destination
Update: Oct 22, 2025
With its natural advantages of islands and sea, rich cultural heritage, and long history, Hai Phong City is developing its tourism through regional connectivity and digital transformation. Close cooperation between local authorities, businesses, and tourism associations is making Hai Phong an attractive, dynamic, distinctive destination for tourists.

So far this year, Hai Phong has welcomed nearly 12 million tourists, 29% more than last year, achieving 82% of its target for the year. Four enterprises - the Hai Dang Conference Complex, Dragon Golf Links, Sono Belle Hai Phong Golf Course, and the Hoa Binh Tourism Company - were honored with the Vietnam Tourism Awards 2025.

Mai Xuan Thang, Chairman of the Hai Phong Tourism Association, said these award-winning businesses are active members that have greatly contributed to reinforcing Hai Phong’s position on Vietnam’s tourism map.

“We will continue to help the municipal administration implement a sustainable green tourism development strategy. As a bridge between businesses and local authorities, we have helped resolve problems, improve members’ competitiveness, and build the brand ‘Hai Phong - an attractive, safe, friendly destination,” Thang told VOV.

In addition to investing in infrastructure, the city has introduced new tourism products, such as the “Sacred Traces of Hang Kenh” night tour at Hang Kenh Communal House and the “Red Flamboyant Train” connecting the city with other heritage sites within the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiep Bac Complex of Monuments and Landscapes, which was recently recognized as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.

The Hai Phong Tourism Association has also strengthened collaboration with tourism associations from other localities to strengthen regional linkages, offering tourists a greater range of experiences.

According to Vu Manh Thang, Chairman of the Hung Yen Tourism Association, Hai Phong’s coastal tourism products are quite distinctive, especially its ‘city tour’ options - something rare among Red River Delta provinces.

“Strong connections between localities have created many new opportunities. With its vast potential, hospitable people, and convenient transportation, tourism in Hai Phong and the Red River Delta will continue to flourish,” said Thang.

Hai Phong’s tourism sector is expanding cooperation with transportation and digital service providers to broaden its development space. The municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has partnered with Grab Vietnam to launch the “Hai Phong Foodtour” feature on the Grab app, promoting the city’s tourism digitally and bringing its cuisine and heritage sites closer to visitors.

Since the beginning of the year, Cat Bi International Airport has added new flights to Seoul and Bangkok, while promoting the resumption of flights to China, Japan, and Singapore. This has attracted more international visitors and shortened travel distances between Hai Phong and regional tourism hubs.

The municipal Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently launched the 2025 Tourism Souvenir Design Contest themed “Hai Phong’s Identity and Imprint through Souvenirs for Visitors”. This marks an important step in strengthening the city’s tourism brand following its administrative merger and represents a breakthrough in tourism promotion.

“In the coming months, we’ll integrate smart tourism systems into Hai Phong’s smart tourism portal. This will allow tourists to explore destinations on their phone, TV, or computer, book tours and services, save time and money, and have a safe, engaging experience,” Tran Van Ngoc, Deputy Director of the  Department, said.

Hai Phong hopes to welcome 14.4 million visitors this year, and earn tourism revenues exceeding 570 million USD. Its comprehensive strategy and long-term vision is asserting its role as a dynamic cultural hub in northern Vietnam and preparing it to join UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network.
